The Gatehouse
Located on the periphery of the site at Beltwood House, The Gatehouse is a fully accessible family home. The building is conceived as the contemporary ‘brother’ to the original Arts & Crafts gatehouse located at the entrance of the driveway to Beltwood House, which we also refurbished as part of the site-wide redevelopment. The width, height and roof pitch are intended to match that of the original gatehouse introducing a dualism in age and architectural style to the site.
The simplistic form meant the building suited construction from large prefabricated CLT panels that could be quickly erected, easily insulated before being encased in its outer brick skin. Left exposed internally, the CLT finish creates a soft, natural interior in contrast to the hard dark black outer appearance.
